Lakehead makes a statement with a 4-2 comeback win over Laurier.
The Golden Hawks would strike first on the powerplay in the second period when Thomas Lenart would snap a shot past Lakehead's Christian Cicigoi for the 1-0 lead. Laurier would hold the lead until just before the midway point of the third period when the Wolves would go to work.
First Malte Hasselgren would wrist a beautiful shot past Laurier's Andrew Ness to tie the game up at 1-1. They would keep coming 1:27 later when freshman James Fuchs would slip the puck past Ness for the first lead of the night 2-1.
Laurier would tie the game up short handed off the stick of Lucas Chard but the Wolves would storm right back 27 seconds later on the power play when Jack Cook would rip an Austin Peters pass passed Ness to give the Wolves the lead for good. Richard Whittaker would score into the empty net to seal the 4-2 win for Lakehead.
Coach Andrew Wilkins picked up his 80th regualar season win all time whichs puts him only 5 wins away from passing former Thunderwolves coach Pete Belliveau who has 84 regular seasons wins all time.
With the win Lakehead now has a share of the Western Conference lead with Laurier and Guelph with 19pts a piece. Lakehead will wind up the first half of the season next weekend in Southern Ontario against Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday Nov 29 at 7pm and in St. Catherines on Sunday against the Brock Badgers at 2pm.
