Lakehead splits weekend series with Windsor

Lakehead had to settle for a split against the Windsor Lancers in the season opening weekend..

The first period of the game would see see both teams garner multiple chances to score but the goalies would make sure the game was scoreless headed to the intermission.

The second period would see Windsor break the ice when Jaydon Fetter would throw a backhanded shot at the net from the left side and it would bounce off of Brady Hinz and past Christian Cicigoi into the net.

Windsor would keep the pressure on four minutes later when Mason Kahn would wrist a pass to Matt Dorsey on the backdoor step and he would one time it in to put the Lancers up by two.

The Lancers would strike a third time in the period when Hunter Holmes was sprung on a partial break away and snapped the puck 5 hole on Christian Cicigoi.

The Wolves would finally get on the board in the third off of a faceoff win by Griffen Fox to the left of of Lancers netminder Nathan Torchia, Pouliot would tap the puck back to Tyler Jette and he would cirlce behind the net and tuck it in between Torchia and the post.

Windor's Grant Spence would round out the scoring in the game to to make the final 4-1 in favour of the Lancers.

Lakehead returns home on Friday October 21 and Saturday October 22 to face the York Lions. It is also Homecoming weekend for Lakehead University and former Thunderwolve and the Wolves's all-time regular season scorer Jeff Richards will be at the Fort William Gardens for a special ceremony.
