The CIS No. 10 Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team were stonewalled 7-2 by the No. 3 Western Mustangs, Friday night at the Thompson Arena in London, Ontario.

The loss drops the Wolves to 11-4-2 in OUA play as they drop to fourth place in the OUA West Division while Western (15-2-0) extends their conference winning streak to 15 games and stay two points ahead of Laurier for first in the West.

Sophomore forward Yashar Farmanara (West Vancouver, British Columbia) was dominant with two goals and two assists to lead the Stangs with five others scoring in the teams win.

Lakehead got markers from freshman forward Ryan McDonald (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) and junior blueliner Mitch Maunu (Thunder Bay).

The Wolves were outshot 46-33 in a game in which both teams went 1-3 on the powerplay. Junior goaltender Kyle Moir (Calgary, Alberta) took the loss despite 39 saves as Westerns Keyvan Hunt (Coquitlam, British Columbia) filled in admirably for the injured Anthony Grieco (Brampton, Ontario) in making 31 stops for the win.

The two teams will conclude their series Saturday night at the Thompson Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. EST.
