Lakehead Travels to Waterloo

The Lakehead Thunderwolves will voyage to Waterloo, Ontario to challenge the University of Waterloo Warriors. The Thunderwolves go into the weekend with a record of0-2-0. Waterloo also enter the series with a record of 0-2-0 after dropping their first two games to Windsor.

Thunderwolves fans in Thunder Bay can listen to the games live on 580 CKPR AM. Thunderwolves and Warriors fans across Canada can listen to the game live via the Internet at www.ckpr.com The two teams take to the ice Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 at the Columbia Icefields arena in Waterloo.

Series History:
This will be the 5th and 6th meetings between the two teams. Waterloo played very tough against Lakehead last year with all four games being very close. Lakehead was 3-0-1 in the four previous games during the 2001-2002 season, outscoring Waterloo 16-12.

Lakehead Head Coach Pete Belliveau said his team is looking forward to the Warrior's challenge.
"We are going to play divisional rivals and these should be two tough games as we have a great rivalry. We cannot go in overconfident as they have a very hardworking team who played us very tough last year.."

Thunderwolves Notes:
The Thunderwolves were ranked No. 3 this week by the CIS Top Ten Selection Committee, the first time Lakehead has been in the Top 10.
Grant McCune, this week's CIS Athlete of The Week, has a record of 2 wins, 2.00 GAA and .913 save percentage.
Thunderwolves leading scorers are Chris Shaffer with 3 goals and 2 assists, Jason Lange with 1 goal and 2 assist, Jeff Richards with 2 goals, Matt Kenny with 1 goal and 1 assist, and Bryan Duce with 2 assists.

Injury Update:
LU forward Mark Robinson suffered an ACL injury in Fridays 5-3 win over Western and Defenceman Aaron Piccinin injured his ankle in the first game, but both players will be able to play this weekend.

Waterloo Warriors Team Info:

The Waterloo Warriors come into the 2002-2003 season with hopes of improving upon their last place finish in the OUA Far West Division. The team's record stands at 0-2-0 in OUA regular season play so far, after dropping their opening two games to Windsor.

Waterloo Head Coach Dave Cressman says his team is prepared to work hard against the Thunderwolves.
"The Warriors will be challenged by a team that has been ranked number 3 in the nation and obviously well deserved as indicated by their weekend sweep against Western. We are a team that will have to be at the top of their game in order to compete. I know that Coach Belliveau will have his team well prepared for the weekend series against us."
