Weekend Preview: Thunderwolves Look to Stay Hot Against the Lions

The Lakehead Thunderwolves look to tame the York Lions and extend their win streak to four games on Friday night at Fort William Gardens.

The Wolves will be without forward Dalton MacGillivray, who is out long term with a fractured wrist, while captain Josh Van Unen will miss Friday’s game and is questionable for the weekend with a lower-body injury.

Despite the injuries, the Thunderwolves are optimistic heading into the series. Local product Nikolas Campbell will draw into the lineup Friday, skating alongside Richard Whittaker and Brody Beauchemin. Freshman Austin Peters also returns from injury and will make his debut on the top line at right wing with Thunder Bay's Nick DeGrazia and Keighan Gerrie.

Caden Drury leads Lakehead in scoring with six points through six games, while DeGrazia, Olivier Pouliot, Malte Hasselgren and rookie defenseman Naaman Hofer are also off to strong starts offensively.

Between the pipes, it appears Lakehead will continue to split the weekend. Christian Cicigoi is expected to start Friday, with Carson Cherepak, who is fresh off his first shutout of the season will get the nod on Saturday.

Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Fort William Gardens.
