Lakehead Thunderwolves Hockey and Head Coach Pete Belliveau are very happy to announce the commitment of forward Mark Soares to the Wolves for the 2006-07 hockey season.
Coach Belliveau said Soares combination of speed, determination, and skill will be an excellent addition to the Wolves. Mark is a very skilled player who is very quick; I think he will remind people a lot of Martin St. Louis in his style of play. I think he will do very well at Lakehead because hes a hard working player who finishes very well.
The talented forward helped lead his Burnaby Express Jr. A squad to the RBC Cup National Jr. A championship title this season. Soares will also be familiar to Thunder Bay hockey fans as he scored the OT winner in the RBC semi-final against the Fort William First Nations North Stars.
Soares said he is very excited about the prospects of studying at Lakehead and donning the Thunderwolves jersey. I am very pleased and excited to be a part of the Thunderwolves team and the Lakehead community. I have heard nothing but great things about Lakehead University and its hockey program. I think the amount of community support is great and I think the atmosphere in Thunder Bay is a great fit for me. This is something I really want to be a part of.
Soares started the 2005-06 season with NCAA Division I Bemidji State but decided to return home to Burnaby and play for the Express. He scored 14 goals and 11 assists in 25 regular season games and added 13 goals and 10 assists in Burnabys successful 20 game championship playoff run. Soares will be enrolling in Business this year at Lakehead.
