Lakehead Thunderwolves junior forward Brock McPherson is this years winner of the Molson Cup; presented annually to the Thunderwolves player who collects the most Molsons Three Stars points at home games as selected by members of the Thunder Bay media.

McPherson, last years runner up to winner Tobias Whelan, placed first with 24 points; the same number of points awarded to fifth year senior netminder Chris Whitley. However, McPherson is this years winner as he was awarded more First Star points.

Lakehead fifth-year senior captain Andrew Brown was third with 15 points, senior forward Dan Speer was fourth with 15, and senior forward Scott Dobben placed fifth in this years voting with 13 points.

Whitley Named Lakehead Male Athlete of the Week

The reigning OUA mens hockey MVP showed why he is one of the top goaltenders in the nation as he backstopped his squad to two huge wins over the No. 6 Western Mustangs. In Fridays 5-1 Lakehead win; Whitley turned aside 31 shots from the Mustangs. In Saturdays thrilling 4-3 overtime victory; Whitley was simply spectacular; turning aside 48 Western shots and making a number of acrobatic stops to give his squad the sweep and some much needed positive momentum heading into the playoffs.
