Meet the 2021-2022 Thunderwolves - Part 2: Returning Players

After a lengthy offseason due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Thunderwolves are thrilled to be returning to the ice. We are proud to reintroduce our returning veterans that will help lead our skilled roster this season:

Jordan King, Forward – Senior

At 6'2" tall and 205 pounds, Jordan has a sturdy frame built for hockey. While originally from Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Jordan is now in Thunder Bay studying Kinesiology. In the 2019-2020 season, Jordan suited up for 30 games with the Thunderwolves. He potted 10 goals, three of which were on the powerplay. Jordan also added 11 assists, for a total of 21 points on the year.

Dexter Kuczek, Forward – Senior

From Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dexter has come East to major in General Arts at Lakehead. At 6'1" tall and weighing in at 210 pounds, Dexter is a force on the ice. Appearing in 31 games, Dexter scored four goals in the 2019-2020 season. One goal was on the powerplay. On top of those goals, he was able to add five assists for a total of nine points.

Geoff Dempster, Forward – Junior

This native of Ottawa, Ontario, is now in the north studying Business. He has a solid build at 6'3" tall, and 200 pounds. Geoff played in 32 games during the 2019-2020 season. With his time on the ice, he scored three goals and assisted on seven others, for a total of 10 points during the campaign.

Greg Smith, Forward – Junior

From Ajax, Ontario, Greg is now in his junior year at Lakehead studying Kinesiology. Measuring 6'1" and weighing in at 185 pounds, Greg is quick on his feet. Greg laced up for 23 games during the 2019-2020 season. He earned six points in his 23 games, divided equally among goals and assists.

Kyle Auger, Defence – Junior

Coming from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Kyle is a hometown favorite. Kyle is in his junior year studying Business at Lakehead University. Playing in 30 games over the course of the 2019-2020 season, Kyle amassed 23 points. He tallied five goals, two of which came with the man-advantage. He was also able to add 18 assists to his point total. Having sat out the previous season due to the pandemic, Kyle is thrilled to be back on the ice, gearing up for the season: "I couldn't be more excited to play this year, I haven't gone this long without playing hockey since I was a little kid. The guys are ready to go, we are young and willing to do anything to win. We are working in practice every day looking forward to November 4th, we are ready to win."

Tyler Jette, Defence – Junior

At a towering 6'3" tall and weighing in at 215 pounds, Tyler can always deliver a hit. From Farmington, Minnesota, Tyler is now in his junior year at Lakehead majoring in General Arts. Tyler appeared in 18 games during the 2019-2020 season. He recorded two assists.

Troy Williams, Defence – Junior

Troy is in his junior year majoring in General Arts at Lakehead. From Dryden, Ontario, Troy measures 5'11", and weighs in at 195 pounds. He played in 29 games through 2019-2020. He scored one goal and added seven assists for a total of eight points on the year.

Taylor Egan, Defence – Junior

Taylor is from Carp, Ontario, and is in his junior year at Lakehead studying Commerce. He measures at an even six feet tall and weighs in at 190 pounds. Taylor laced up for 32 games during the 2019-2020 season. With his time on the ice, he recorded nine assists.

Blake Weyrick, Goalie – Junior

From Santa Monica, California, Blake is now earning his Master's in Business Administration with Lakehead. At 6'3" tall and weighing in at 200 pounds, it is tough to get a puck past him. Blake is really looking forward to his senior year as a Thunderwolf. When asked about the coming season, Blake said "We could not be more excited to play for Lakehead U this year. It's been a long time in the making, and we are all prepared to make this organization, fans, the university, and city proud. We have a special group, from the staff to the players, and are eager to show what we are capable of."

Brock Aiken, Goalie – Junior

Brock is from right here in Thunder Bay and is majoring in General Arts at Lakehead. Brock is quick in the net at 5'11" tall and 175 pounds. He appeared in 11 games during the previous season. He recorded 3 wins and 6 losses, allowing 32 goals across those contests. He earned a goals against average (GAA) of 3.38, with a save percentage of .904.

Kevin Stiles – Forward

From Ajax, Ontario, Kevin joined the Thunderwolves in the summer of 2020. Stiles last played for the Pickering Panthers of the OJHL, helping the team to finish with the best regular season record in the North division. He finished the 2019-2020 season with 51 points in 53 games, adding four points in a first round playoff victory for the Panthers before having the playoffs get cut short. When asked about joining the Thunderwolves, Kevin said "I am extremely excited to attend Lakehead University and play for the men's varsity hockey team. I'd like to thank Rob Pearson, David Demarinis and the entire Pickering Panthers organization for putting me in a spot to succeed over the past two seasons. I can't wait to get started with the Thunderwolves!"

Colin Van Den Hurk – Defence

A native of Havelock, Ontario, this 5'11" 190 pound defenseman joined the Thunderwolves in the spring of 2020. He was previously captain of the Trenton Golden Hawks, tallying 42 points in 50 regular-season games and adding 7 points in 5 playoff games before having the playoffs cut short. Asked about joining Lakehead's team, Colin said "I'm really happy to be coming to Lakehead University to continue my hockey career as well as my education. I'd like to thank everyone who has helped me get this far and I'm looking forward to the next step."

Dylan Massie – Forward

Standing at 6'1", Dylan spent the final year of his junior career with the Wellington Dukes of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. The Dukes were a league best 43-9-2 during the 2019-2020 campaign. Dylan amassed 48 points in 54 games, standing out as an elite skater. Asked about playing for the Thunderwolves, Dylan said "I'm extremely excited to be attending Lakehead University to further my studies. Looking forward to being apart of the Lakehead Thunderwolves and competing for a championship."

Noah Massie – Defence

Also standing at 6'1", Noah played for both Moncton and Charlottetown in the QMJHL before joining the Wellington Dukes. Noah is a well-rounded defenseman with an exceptional ability to move the puck. Massie is looking forward to joining the Thunderwolves this year, saying "I'm very excited to get this opportunity to attend Lakehead University to further my studies. Playing hockey at the highest level I can is everything for me and I believe Lakehead is the perfect spot. Can't wait to get started."
