Former Lakehead Defenseman enters first pro season after joining Falcons for last seasons playoff run.

8/10/07-Fresno, Calif. The Fresno Falcons announced today that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman Mike Self for the 2007-2008 season.

The 24-year-old enters his first pro season, but is no stranger to Fresno. Self joined the Falcons last season for their first-round playoff series against the Bakersfield Condors following the completion of his collegiate season at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He made his pro debut in game three of the series, and went on to appear in two more games, going scoreless and posting two penalty minutes.

During his four-year career at Lakehead, Self appeared in 144 games, posting 33 points and 255 penalty minutes. He appeared in three conference finals with the Thunderwolves, and was part of the 2005-06 squad which captured the OUA Queens Cup Championship, and also earned a national silver medal.

Mike comes to us after a very successful college career, Falcons Assistant Coach Ryan Mougenel said. He is a mobile defenseman who brings an element we are looking for on our back end. He is a committed teammate, and his experience in Fresno during last seasons playoffs should be a big help to him as he begins his first professional season.

I am definitely excited to be returning to Fresno to begin my pro career, Self said. My time there last season was very enjoyable, and I know that Matt and Ryan are putting together a very competitive team which should do good things this season.

The Fresno Falcons open the 2007-2008 season on Friday, October 19 at Save Mart Center against the Las Vegas Wranglers at 7:30 p.m.
