January 29, 2007 (OUA)- Toronto 3, UQTR 1
Rookie defensemen Ed Snetsinger (Ajax, Ontario) potted the eventual game-winner at 7:57 of the second period to lift the Toronto Varsity Blues (18-6-0-0) over UQTR (14-4-2-3) this past Saturday night. UQTR jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as Thiery Poudrier (Victoriaville, Quebec) netted his 17th goal of the season on the power play. Toronto responded quickly as fourth year left winger Simon Barg (Ashburn, Ontario) scored his first of two on the night and added a power play goal late in the third.
Toronto goaltender Ryan Grinnell continued to shine for his team as he stopped 23 of 24 shots on the night increasing his goals against average to 1.90. Combined with their 3-1 win over Concordia (6-15-2-0) this past Friday night Toronto takes a strangle hold of the Mid-East division, while with the loss UQTR remains just three points ahead of McGill in the Far East.

Lakehead 5, Laurier 6 OT
Coming off a 9-3 victory the previous night the No.7 Laurier Golden Hawks (18-5-1-0) hung on to take the OT winner against the Lakehead Thunderwolves (12-8-2-2). In a penalty filled match up third year forward Mark Voakes (St.Thomas, Ontario) netted the OT winner at 4:24 of the extra frame. Laurier was led by Matt Grennier (Dryden, Ontario) who had two goals on the night while singles came from Ryan Courtney (Ennismore, Ontario), Chris Di Ubaldo (Winnipeg Manitoba) and Nathan Peacock (Tillsonburg, Ontario). Lakehead was led by Brock McPherson who had two goals for the Thunderwolves. Both Lakehead netminder Chris Whitley (Oshawa, Ontario) and Laurier goalie Jeff MacDougald (Shallow Lake, Ontario) played a busy game; with Whitley facing 44 Laurier shots and MacDougald looking at 51 Lakehead shots. With the win Laurier continues to build their lead on second place York Lions in the Mid West while Lakehead drops their fourth in a row and now sits third in the Far West.
