February 19, 2007 (OUA)- McGill vs Concordia- #3 East vs #6 East- (McGill wins best of 3 series 2-1)
No.9 McGill and Concordia went head to head this past week in the first round of the OUA mens hockey playoffs, with McGill coming away with the series win two games to one. In game one, McGill played a solid defensive game keeping Concordia to 18 shots on the night, while the Redmen had 42 of their own defeating the Stingers 6-3. Game two McGill faced a determined Concordia squad. Down 4-1 after the first period, Concordia clawed their way back to steal the win 6-5 in overtime with the help of three point nights from Michael Halitzki (St.Johns, Newfoundland) and Mike Baslyk (Montreal, Quebec) Game three saw the McGill of old, who dominated the Stingers in every facet of the game to take the win 8-0. Fourth year veteran Shawn Shewchuk (Lloydminister, Alberta) lead his team with three goals on the night, while Mathieu Poitras (Gatineau, Quebec) sat this game out leading way to back up goaltender Jean Michel Filiatrault (Laval, Quebec) who earned the shut out for his team on the night.

Ottawa vs Queens #4 East vs #5 East- (Ottawa wins best of 3 series 2-0)
After two close regular season match-ups, two, one goal games was all it took for the Ottawa Gee-Gees to move past the Queens Golden Gaels this past week. In game one, Ottawas Kevin Glode (Quebec City, Quebec) scored with four seconds left in the third period to give the Gee-Gees the 2-1 win over the visiting Golden Gaels. Game two saw the Gee-Gees travel down the 401 to Kingston, where Ottawa standout Ben McLeod (Edmonton, Alberta) scored 3:22 into the opening frame, and to lead the Gee-Gees to a 1-0 victory and take the series in two games. Ottawa goaltender Martin Bricault (Laval, Quebec) played an outstanding game turning away 39 shots from the Golden Gaels.

Western vs Brock- #3 West vs #6 West- (Western wins the best of 3 series 2-1)
It took a third game, double overtime period to decide the winner of this series as the Western Mustangs defeated the Brock Badgers in their three game playoff series. Game one saw goals from Mustangs Steve Benedetti (London, Ontario) and Jacob King (Thessalon, Ontario) in a 2-0 win as Western goaltender Brad Topping (Strathroy, Ontario) stopped 26 Badger shots en route to the shut out. Back in St.Catharines, Saturday night, Ryan Del Monte scored the first goal of the game and Brock never looked back forcing game three of the series back in London. Third year right winger Kevin Richardson (South Surrey, British Columbia) played the heroics as he scored the double over-time, series winning goal at 8:23 of the fifth frame in game three, to give Western the series win.

York vs Lakehead- #4 West vs #5 West- (Lakehead wins the best of 3 series 2-0)
Twelve periods of hockey in two games, and two Mike Wehrstedt (Thunder Bay, Ontario) over-time goals sums up the best of three series between the Lakehead Thunderwolves and the York Lions this past week as Lakehead gets by the Lions two games to none. Game one saw a goaltenders battle as York netminder Kevin Druce (Kingston, Ontario) played an incredible game keeping the Lions in close while facing 87 Lakehead shots over the 110 minutes of play. Without Lakehead captain Jeff Richards (Kenora, Ontario) in the line up for the second game in the row, the Thunderwolves had to look elsewhere for their offensive power. Second year forward Andrew Brown (Bancroft, Ontario) stepped up and scored two goals for the Thunderwolves, while goaltender Christ Whitley (Oshawa, Ontario) kept his team in the game turning aside 56 of 59 York shots,
