November 27, 2006 - The Waterloo Warriors grabbed a share of the lead in the OUA standings after a successful weekend that included a dramatic 4-3 OT win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees and followed by a 4-3 victory over the nationally ranked McGill Redmen the following night. David Philpott scored the game-winning goal and added an assist as the Warriors overcame a furious Ottawa rally. Waterloo led 3-0 after 40 minutes but third-period goals by Patrick Bilodeau, Mark Vernelli and Ben McLeod (pictured), who also chipped in two helpers, brought the Gee-Gees even, sending the game to the extra session. Philpott scored at 3:04 of the overtime to clinch the impressive road win for the Warriors. Jimmy Bernier made 25 saves in goal for Waterloo. The Warriors had to mount their own comeback against McGill in Montreal Saturday, scoring four straight to erase a two-goal deficit before eventually winning by one. Benoit Martin established a two-goal lead for the host Redmen with goals in the opening period but Waterloo stormed back in the second and third periods. Ryan McGregor and Kevin Hurley had a goal and an assist each, while Curtis Darling was sensational in net, turning away 39 of the 42 shots he faced to preserve the win. Martin added his hat-trick goal for McGill in the third period. Waterloo (11-2-1-0) has 23 points, tied with their cross-town rival Laurier for tops in the OUA.

The Golden Hawks kept their perch atop the Mid West Division with two victories on the week, beginning with a decisive 5-2 win over the Guelph Gryphons Friday in Guelph. Rookie forward Jeff Borrows scored the first two goals of his OUA career and added an assist for Laurier, while Nathan Peacock picked up two helpers. Aaron Forer made 32 saves in between the pipes. Chris Baker and Thomas Laplante had the Guelph goals. The Hawks improved to 11-2-1-0 with a 4-1 win over the York Lions Saturday in Waterloo. With the scored knotted at 1-1 entering the third period, Mark Voakes, James Edgar and Tyler Grover all tallied in a span of less than four minutes to clinch the win. Grover and Voakes also added an assist each. Forer, a second-year Saskatchewan native, got the call again and made 30 saves for his second win of the weekend.

While Windsor forward Jordie Preston entered the week of action atop the CIS goal scoring race, teammate Alex White was displaying his own offensive touch, scoring four times as the Lancers pummeled the Concordia Stingers 6-1 Friday in Montreal. Whites first of the night gave the Lancers a 2-1 lead in the second period and with his team up 3-1, the fourth-year winger from Tecumseh, Ont. scored three straight to grab a natural hat-trick in a 15-minute stretch. Reese Kalleitner kept the Stingers at bay, making 27 saves for the win. The two teams hooked up again Saturday and a short-handed effort by Windsors Drew Petkoff at 14:45 of the third period was the difference as the Lancers posted a 3-2 win to sweep four points in Montreal. Preston notched his 16th of the year in the win, while White added his fifth of the weekend. Kalleitner made 29 saves for his fifth win of the year. Jesse Goodsell and Mike Baslyk scored for Concordia.

The Toronto Varsity Blues extended their lead in the Mid East to 10 points after picking up two wins on the week, including a dominating 7-1 victory over the Queens Golden Gaels Friday and a 3-0 shutout of the RMC Paladins Saturday. Chris Gray scored twice for the Blues and Scott Malcolm added two late goals in addition to an assist as the Blues cruised in Kingston.
