Jeff Richards has been named this week's OUA Male Athlete of the Week. Richards inspired play led his No. 8 Thunderwolves to their first-ever sweep of the Mustangs in London and put a stop to Lakeheads four game OUA losing streak. Last years OUA hockey MVP scored 4 goals and 2 assists in No. 8 Lakeheads weekend sweep over the No. 3 Western Mustangs in London.
The Kenora Komet had an amazing game in Saturdays 8-4 win before 5230 noisy Western fans at the John Labatt Centre when he scored 3 goals and added two assists.
Richards was hindered by nagging injuries in the first half of the season but now he has found his form and is tied for 7th in OUA scoring with 22 points (along with linemate Joel Scherban) even though he has only played 13 regular season games due to injury and playing for Team Canada at the FISU Winter Universiade in Austria. His 1.69 ppg puts him among the best point producers in the CIS.
