Lakehead Thunderwolves Hockey and head coach Joel Scherban are pleased to release the Wolves roster for the 2009-10 season.
After completing his first training camp as Lakehead bench boss, Scherban opted to carry a 23-man roster including 13 forwards, eight defencemen and two goaltenders.
Eight Thunder Bay natives will suit up for the Thunderwolves including goaltending recruit Alex Dupuis and walk-ons Mike Thibert, and Brennan Menard who earned their roster spots with strong auditions at Wolves open tryouts earlier this month.
Freshman forwards Victor Anilane of Gothenburg, Sweden, and Andrew Wilkins of Pickering, Ontario will join an experienced Thunderwolves team that will host the 2010 CIS Cavendish University Cup at the Fort William Gardens in March for a second consecutive year.
Forwards Dan Speer of Thunder Bay, Shandor Alphonso of Orangeville, Ontario and Scott Dobben of Drayton, Ontario all enter their fifth and final seasons of CIS eligibility with Lakehead.
Scherban is excited to lead his newly assembled team into the 2009-10 season.
The 2009-10 Thunderwolves roster features a strong core of veterans including nine of last years top 10 scorers, along with five talented first year players, he said.
All 23 players are deserving of their roster spot after showing great work ethic and a high level of competitiveness during the three weeks of training camp.
Lakehead hockey fans will have their first opportunities to watch the new-look Thunderwolves in action October 2 and 3 at the Fort Williams Gardens as the team hosts the Guelph Gryphons as part of Homecoming Weekend. Both games will start at 7:30pm.
