The Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team skated to a tough 4-2 win over the Brock Badgers Saturday night in St. Catherines to earn the away sweep. The Wolves built a 3-1 lead but the Badgers scored late in the third on the powerplay and pulled their netiminder Tom Lee but Lakehead Captain Joel Scherban scored an empty net goal, his 100th career goal at Lakehead, to ice the game.
Scherban and Jason Lange led the Wolves with a goal and an assist while Andrew Brown and Jeff Richards notched the other Lakehead goals. Brocks scoring came from Ryan Del Monte and Jonathan Labelle. Lakehead outshot Brock 35-26 in the game.
The Thunderwolves are now 13-7-2 in OUA play (17-13-4 overall) while Brock goes to 7-13-2 in OUA action (10-18-2 overall). The Wolves are third in the OUA Far West with 28 points, 1 point behind Waterloo. Lakehead clinched a playoff berth with Fridays win and are now jockeying for first round playoff positioning while Brock is battling for the final OUA West playoff spot with Windsor.
Lakehead ends the OUA regular season next weekend on the road in London, Ontario against the OUA leading Western Mustangs.
