Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey team are pleased to announce that defenceman Justin Sefton has committed to the program and will be enrolled in classes and ready to join the team in January.

A third-round NHL draft pick of the San Jose Sharks, Sefton played five years in the Ontario Hockey League, mainly with the Sudbury Wolves, before finishing up his career with the London Knights and Saginaw Spirit.

The 63, 225 pound rearguard had his best season as a 20-year-old in Saginaw. Sefton recorded 17 goals and 22 assists for 39 points in 72 games played for the Spirit.

He also spent time in Fort Wayne and Wheeling of the East Coast Hockey League earlier this season before deciding to commit to Lakehead.

Sefton is looking forward to his homecoming. I grew up watching the Thunderwolves, and now it will be nice to be able to play in front of my family and friends as one of them, Justin said. Ive got a comfort level with the coaching staff here and combined with Lakeheads reputation for athletics and academics, it was an easy decision to come here.

Thunderwolves Head Coach Bill McDonald is pleased that Sefton has chosen to attend Lakehead. Justin will be a great addition to our defensive unit, as he has great size and has logged a lot of minutes in the OHL, McDonald said. Hes made the decision to pursue a university education which is great. Im eager to see him in the line-up after Christmas and in the coming years.
