Lakehead Athletics and the Thunderwolves mens hockey team are very proud to announce that six of its players have been chosen to attend the training camp for the OUA All-Star Team that will represent Canada at the upcoming Winter University Games in Innsbruck, Austria this upcoming Jan. 12th to 22nd. The six players are Captain and centre Joel Scherban, goaltender Grant McCune, defenseman Erik Lodge, forward Jeff Richards, forward Murray Magill, and centre Peter Cava.

Lakehead Athletic Director Tom Warden said the players selection to the camp is a positive reflection on the Lakehead hockey program. I truly believe this is a great opportunity for our program and indicates the depth of our team. I think that our team will be a better team because of this. I want to congratulate all of the players for this great opportunity.

Head Coach Pete Belliveau said this is a great opportunity and deserving reward for the players. We are very happy for the players selected for the camp, they have worked very hard. I am thinking of our first committed players of four years ago, McCune, Scherban, and Lodge, what they have done for our program and how they will be great ambassadors for us. Richards was the OUA MVP last season and is a constant treat on the ice; he certainly would be on the big Olympic ice where he could use his speed. Peter Cava would give them a very experienced player who can make plays and finish very well on the big ice. Magill is our teams leading scorer this season and can skate and finish very well. We are all proud of the players accomplishments and wish them the very best in their opportunity to make the teamthat will represent Canada and go for Gold in Austria.

The All-Stars training camp will run from Dec. 15th to 19th in Woodstock, Ontario which will include two exhibition games against the Belarus National Junior Team on Dec. 17th and 18th. Western Coach Clarke Singer is the Head Coach of the OUA All-Stars and he and his staff will use the camp to make their final cuts for the team that will go to Austria in January and try to bring the Gold medal to Canada for the first time since 1991.
