The Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey program is pleased to announce the hiring of Malcolm Sutherland as Assistant Coach.

Sutherland had previously been an assistant with the Thunderwolves in the teams inaugural season (2001-02) under then Head Coach Pete Belliveau.

He was also an Assistant Coach for the Thunder Bay Thunder Cats of the UHL from 1997 to 1999, as well as Head Coach of the Northern Hawks Junior team from 2002 to 2004.

Sutherland has also been involved with Hockey Canada as a Regional Scout from 2002 to 2011, and is a member of the Canadian Professional Coaches Association.

Sutherland is a graduate of Lakehead University, with a Bachelor of Physical Education degree in 1991 and a Masters of Science in Kinesiology in 2011.

Thunderwolves Head Coach Bill McDonald likes what Sutherland will bring to the team. Malcolm has a real passion for the game, and I think he will relate well to the players, McDonald said. His experience and certifications with Hockey Canada, combined with his coaching background at various levels will be an asset to both our team and our hockey camps.

McDonald may also consider adding another assistant to his staff at a later date.
