Sam Roberts goal at 1:46 of the first OT was the difference as the St. FX X-Men scored a thrilling 5-4 OT win over the Calgary Dinos to open the Lakehead Thunderwolves TBayTel Varsity Cup hockey tournament Wednesday afternoon at the Fort WilliamGardens in Thunder Bay, Ont.
The X-Men scoring came from Roberts, Ryan Walsh, Ryan Salvis, Ryan Dyck, and Ryan Armstrong. Alex Lapointe notched two for the Dinos while Alex Lalonde and Colin McRae got singles for Calgary.
X jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first but the Dinos fought back to even the score at two apiece. There was no scoring in the second but the X-Men then took a 4-2 lead midway through the third. However the Dinos fought back again and tied the score at 4; getting the fourth with just 17 seconds left to play. Shots were 39-35 St. FX in the game.
