Team Canada was defeated 6-0 at the Winter Universiade in Innsbruck, Austria by a powerful Team Russia. Penalties again proved to be a problem for Canada as they were assessed 40 minutes to Russia's 26 and the Russians scored four times on the powerplay. Russia's Alexandre Sazonov and Oleg Smirnov scored twice for the Russians while Evgeny Durabin and Igor Kamaev added singles. Russia outshot Canada 41-32.

The loss puts Canada's final record at 3-2 in Group B play, good for third spot but out of the medal round. Russia and the Czech Republic will go on from Pool B to play host Austria and Finland of Pool A in the medal round. Canada will play the Slovaks on Friday in the fifth place game.
