The Lakehead Thunderwolves defeated the Guelph Gryphons 5-2 in a very tough game in Guelph, Ontario Saturday afternoon. Lakehead again had a balanced attack with scoring coming from five different players; Shandor Alphonso, Matt Maissoneuve, Brad Priestlay, Tobias Whelan, and Richard Molenaar. Guelphs goals came from Chris Baker and Thomas Laplante.

Shots on goal for the game were even at 44. Netminder Chris Whitley recorded the win for the Wolves with a strong game while the Andrew Arklie of the Gryphons took the loss in a good performance.

The Wolves were never behind on the day; having leads of 2-0 after the first, 2-1 after the second, and a three-goal third that sealed the deal.

Lakeheads goals from Maissoneuve and Molenaar were their first OUA regular season goals. Whelan continues at his impressive two points per game average and remains among the scoring leaders in the OUA and the CIS. Priestlays goal was scored shorthanded while Molenaars was an empty netter that put an exclamation point on the game.

The Wolves played without Captain Jeff Richards and d-man Dan Rogers although Rogers will join the squad in Sundays rematch.

Lakehead now has a 5-2 OUA record (7-5 overall) while Guelph goes to 3-4 in OUA action (4-8 overall).

The two teams face off again Sunday afternoon at 2:00 pm EST and both games can be heard in Thunder Bay on 580 CKPR AM Radio with Bryan Wyatt calling the play by play and Jonas Gilbart handling pre-game and intermissions.
