Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey programare pleased to announce that three former Thunderwolves have signed contracts to play professional hockey.
Shandor Alphonso will follow in the footsteps of former Lakehead players Chris Whitley and Tobias Whelan by signing with the Allen Americans of the Central Hockey League. Alphonso graduated with his Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree and is working on completing his Masters in Business Administration this summer. He was known for his work ethic and crunching body-checks which made him a fan favorite at the Fort William Gardens.
Scott Dobben has signed on with Kaufbeuren of the German 2 Bundesliga, where former Thunderwolf Mike Wehrstedt also plays. Dobben led the Wolves in scoring last season with 52 points and was named the Lakehead University Male Athlete of the Year. Dobben will be graduating with a degree in Kinesiology.
Matt Dias will join Milano Rossoblu of the Italian 2 league where he should add the same scoring punch he provided for the Wolves last season.
Lakehead Head Coach Joel Scherban wishes all three of his former players well. We are excited that these young men are continuing on with their hockey careers at the professional level, and wish them all the best of luck.
