Three Wolves Receive OUA Honours

Three Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey players received conference honours it was announced by the OUA today in Hamilton, Ontario. Lakehead captain Andrew Brown was the OUA West nominee for the prestigious CIS Randy Gregg Award while forward Brock McPherson and defenceman Jordan Smith were named OUA West Second Team All Stars.

Brown, a fifth-year senior, is up for the Randy Gregg Award. This award is given each year to the CIS player who best combines athletic and academic excellence with community service. It is named after former University of Alberta and Edmonton Oilers star Dr. Randy Gregg. Brown had 5 goals and 15 assists during the regular season and 2 goals and 3 assists in 5 playoff games. During his five years as a Lakehead student-athlete; Brown has excelled in the arena, the classroom, and has done extensive charitable and community work. Last year he was an RBC Academic All Canadian.

McPherson, a junior, garners his second consecutive OUA All Star recognition; being named a First Team All Star last season. He was tied for 10th in OUA regular season scoring with 18 goals and 15 assists and had 6 goals and 2 assists in 5 playoff games. McPherson was the top offensive player for the Wolves all season and also was famous for his strong corner work and ability to control the puck along the boards in the opponents end.

Smith, also a junior, also received his second straight OUA All Star recognition; as he was a First Team All Star last year. This year; he missed five games due to injury but came on strong in the second half of the season and delivered a large number of his famous body jarring hits, played hardnosed defensive hockey, and added 6 assists during the regular season. Smith was named the hardest hitter in the CIS by The Hockey News.
