The Lakehead Thunderwolves men's hockey program will be the focus of a short feature to be aired as part of CBC's annual Hockey Day In Canada - Celebrating Our Game broadcast this Saturday Feb. 15th. The feature is scheduled to be aired between 1:30 and 2:00 p.m. during the Celebrating Our Game program which will be shown on the CBC from 12-4 in the afternoon EST.

HNIC Host Ron MacLean will anchor Hockey Day In Canada from the Arctic Winter Games Complex in Iqaluit, capital of Nunavut, on the south shore of Baffin Island. The four-hour Celebrating Our Gametelecast features Canadian hockey at various levels, showing Canadians the importance and impact of the national game on communities across the country. It will precede the annual NHL Triple Header between all six Canadian NHL teams.

Lakehead Athletic Director Tom Warden said being part of the broadcast is a great boost for Lakehead and the city of Thunder Bay. "I think being included in Hockey Day In Canada shows that our new hockey program has generated some national interest. It puts our university on the national radar screen and also helps to raise the profile and awareness of Canadian university athletics in general to a large audience across Canada."

Lakehead Head Coach Pete Belliveau said his team, and it's success, is a reflection of the high caliber minor hockey system in Thunder Bay. "Our hockey team is very honored to be part of Hockey Day in Canada. I think it's fitting that one of Canada's top minor hockey cities will be featured across Canada. Our hockey team is a testament to the quality of the local minor hockey associations as we have no less than 11 former Thunder Bay minor hockey players on our team and four more from other Northwestern Ontario towns!"

The feature was produced by Thunder Bay Television (TBT) for Hockey Day In Canada and it features TBT sports reporter Chris Prystanski. The report was written by Prystanski, Bob Legros was the videographer/editor, Ed Maki was primary editor and Gary Rinne was the producer.TBT will preview the feature on thisFriday's News Hour at 6:00 p.m. in Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario.
