Thunderwolves hockey accepting applications for Equipment Manager/Athletic Therapist position

Lakehead University Thunderwolves Hockey is seeking an individual to serve as Athletic Therapist/Equipment Manager commencing with the 2015-16-hockey season. The successful candidate is a team-oriented individual who is outgoing, organized and able to work closely with the coaching and medical staff.

The Athletic Therapist /Equipment Manager should be a certified athletic therapist in good standing, responsible for providing on-site intervention and care of injuries occurring at practices and games; assessment, treatment and return to play progression for all injuries, communication with coaches and the head athletic therapist. Additionally, this individual will work closely with and supervise the student athletic trainer as well as aid in the provision of preventative and therapeutic sport medicine services in the clinic and at sporting events.

Equipment Manager duties include repair and distribution of equipment (sticks, gloves, pants, helmets, jerseys, team apparel), game day setup of dressing room, players benches and team equipment, skate sharpening, post-practice and post-game laundry, maintenance and management of inventory related to hockey operations in collaboration with the coaching staff, and also needs to aid visiting teams.

This position reports to the head athletic therapist for all injury and medical related issues, and reports to the head coach for all hockey operations issues.

The successful candidate demonstrates excellent skills/abilities in the following areas: injury assessment and treatment, modality use, on-ice injury management; knowledge and application of injury preventive systems and techniques, organizational skills; interpersonal skills; ability to work as part of a team; record keeping, demonstrated good oral and written communication skills; supervisory skills; ability to operate with established policies and protocols.

Education:
Professional designation of C.A.T.(C) Member in good standing with the Canadian Athletic Therapists' Association Current First Aid, First Responder, AED and CPR certifications.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have one to two years of experience as an athletic therapist in a hockey.

Salary will be based on experience and qualifications.

Term of Employment: August 15, 2015 to March 31, 2016 (renewed annually)
