The Lakehead University Thunderwolves take on the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns this weekend to open up their CIS hockey campaign. The Thunderwolves go into this season with high hopes after their successful inaugural season in OUA hockey last season.

The team has added some quality recruits this year and Head Coach Pete Belliveau hopes they will make the Thunderwolves a strong contender this year. Coach Belliveau believes Lethbridge will be a good test for his team to begin the new season. "We are very happy to host Lethbridge, they are bringing a very experienced team and have already shown their strength in beating good Canada West teams including the University of Alberta Golden Bears. They will give us a very good indication of where we are at this stage of the season."

The Pronghorns, led by new head coach, Bill Peters, come into Thunder Bay riding a winning streak after claiming tournament championships at the Husky Hockey Classic in Saskatchewan and the Alberta Golden Bears Brick Invitational. Coach Peters says he is excited about the prospect of playing the Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay.

"The Lethbridge Pronghorns are looking forward to coming out East as a final tune up before heading into Canada West play. With 19 veteran players returning to camp and a quality recruiting class, the pre-season series will be interesting for us as players battle for spots. Lakehead University is well known for their big crowds and our players are
excited about playing in that environment."

The two teams take to the ice Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 at the Fort William Garden in Thunder Bay.
