The Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey team is getting even more involved with minor hockey this year, and has launched the Junior Wolves program where the club sponsors one novice hockey team per year chosen by a random draw.

The big club supplies the Junior Wolves team with sets of both blue and white jerseys, just like the University squad wears.

This seasons Junior Wolves team is the Westfort Maroons, which participated in the Sportop Hockey Hero and Canadian Tire Wolf Pups promotions at the Thunderwolves game versus Laurier last Friday night.

Aaron Piccinin, Head Coach of the inaugural Junior Wolves, has a special connection with the program. I was fortunate enough to play for the Thunderwolves, and now my son gets to put the jersey on. We are very grateful that our team was selected to be the Junior Thunderwolves this year and the kids will all wear the jersey with pride.

Next year will be the Elks turn, and In future years, all the other minor hockey organizations will be selected at some point.

Weve been working closely with minor hockey all along, said Jason Mallon, Executive Director of Thunderwolves Hockey. Current players like Adam Restoule, Matt Kaarela, and Kelin Ainsworth were just kids playing Thunder Bay minor hockey when our varsity hockey program was re-started back in 2001. Weve been fortunate to have many local boys play for our team and we wanted to launch a program that would excite todays young players and also thank the great local minor hockey organizations.
