Lakehead Athletics and Thunderwolves Hockey are very happy to announce that Thunder Bay native and Olympic national womens hockey team gold medalist, Katie Weatherston, will be playing for Bryan Trottiers NHL Legends Team against the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Wednesday, April 5th at the Fort William Gardens at 7:30 pm.

Weatherston was a first year member of the Canadian womens national team that took gold in Turin, Italy this past February. She is also a star player for Ivy League NCAA Division I hockey power, Dartmouth College.

Lakehead Athletics Director Tom Warden said the Thunderwolves are honoured that Weatherston will be taking part. We are really excited to have Katie join the Legends team for this fantastic event. She is a wonderful role model and hero for young people in our community and across Canada.

Weatherston said she is thrilled to be taking part in the Legends game. Im definitely looking forward to coming home and meeting a lot of these great players and interesting people. It will also be a lot of fun to play against the Thunderwolves; quite a few of whom I know very well. I think its going to be a great night.

The NHL Legends, led by NHL great Bryan Trottier (Hall of Famer and Stanley Cup winner), will consist of Billy Smith (Hall of Famer and Stanley Cup Winner), Glenn Anderson (Stanley Cup Winner), Dale Hawerchuk (Hall of Famer), Gary Leeman (Stanley Cup Winner), and Gaston Gingras (Stanley Cup Winner). Local Thunder Bay hockey greats Walt Poddubny, Mel Angelstad, and Jason Firth will also be suiting up for the Legends. Tickets are available now at the Fort William Gardens Box Office.
