Mike Wehrstedt of mens hockey and Tara Boyce of womens basketball are this weeks Lakehead RBC Athletes of the Week. Wehrstedt led his team to to wins over the No. 10 York Lions while Boyce led her squad to a pair of thrilling one-point wins over Ottawa and Carleton.

Mike Wehrstedt: Mens Hockey: Junior: General Arts. Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Wehrstedt continues to play like a man on a mission for the Wolves so far in regular season play. In Fridays 6-1 win over No. 10 York, he was a two-way guided missile, tearing up the ice and forechecking and backchecking like a man possessed. Although he didnt get a point in Fridays game; he delivered timely hits and his line kept the Lions pinned in their end on almost every shift and fired a bushel of shots at the York netminder. In Saturday, he played the game of his career at Lakehead; setting up linemate Mark Robinson for Lakeheads first two goals and then scoring the tying goal with 50 seconds left in the game. To top that, he scored the game winner 10 seconds later to give his team a sweep over the No. 10 Lions.

Womens Basketball: Tara Boyce: Junior Guard, Hamilton, Ontario.
Tara Boyce lead the Thunderwolves to 2 thrilling last second wins this weekend defeating Ottawa 56-55 on Friday and Carleton 53-52 on Saturday. She averaged 11.5 ppg, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists to 0.5 turnovers, and 2 steals in each of the games. This is the second straight weekend where Boyce has averaged less than one turnover per game in over 35 minutes of average playing time per game. Boyce is second in the CIS in assists/turnover ratio with a 5-1 assist to turnover ratio. Boyce played like an All-Canadian point guard this weekend, calming the team down when it was pressure time and finding the right person at the right time. She also knocked down the key shots when her teammates got her the ball down the stretch.
