Lakehead Thunderwolves defensemen Jeff Whitfield has joined the First Nations North Stars of the Superior International Junior A Hockey League for the rest of the season. Whitfield began play on Wednesday night for the Stars and scored the winning goal in the Stars 8-2 win over the Scheiber Diesel.
Lakehead Head Coach Pete Belliveau said this is a great opportunity for Whitfield. "It's a win-win situation for Lakehead, Jeff, and the North Stars as it gives Jeff the chance to get a lot of ice time for a top team in the North Stars as they will be hosting the Dudley Hewitt Cup this year and will further develop his skills for next year when he can rejoin the Thunderwolves."
The Sault Ste Marie native and first year General Arts student will be eligible to return to the Wolves next season.
