This weeks Lakehead Athletics RBC Athletes of the Week are Chris Whitley of Mens Hockey and Liz VanEvery of Womens Cross Country.
Chris Whitley: Mens Hockey: Goaltender: 5th Year Senior: Oshawa, Ont.
Whitley played a strong game between the pipes in Fridays strange lightning game against the Carleton Ravens. The game was postponed after two periods due to a power outage at the Fort William Gardens caused by a massive storm in the city of Thunder Bay. The finale of the game was played before Saturday nights second game of the two-game series vs. the Ravens and Whitley stood tall in the game-deciding shootout; stopping all six Carleton shooters he faced.
Liz VanEvery: Womens Cross Country: Junior: Gore Bay, Ont.
VanEvery ran a strong race at the annual Roy Griak Invitational Meet in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday. The gigantic meet features varsity runners from across the US Midwest. VanEvery placed 59th in the huge field of 497 competitors in a time of 24:06.33.
