Whitley Named OUA MVP and All Star; McPherson, Smith, Soares, and Hogg Also Garner OUA Honours

Senior netminder Chris Whitley led the parade of awards garnered by the Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team it was announced today by the OUA. Whitley was named OUA MVP as winner of the Bill L'Heureux Trophy and an OUA West First Team All Star. This is the third time a Lakehead player has been named OUA MVP in seven seasons of Thunderwolves Hockey; as Whitley joins former captains Joel Scherban and Jeff Richards.
Joining him on the West First Team are sophomore forward Brock McPherson and sophomore defenseman Jordan C. Smith.
McPhersons sophomore line-mate Mark Soares was named to the OUA West Second All Star Team while freshman forward Kris Hogg was named to the All Rookie Team.
Whitley posted a 15-0 regular season mark and was among the CIS and OUA leaders in GAA and save percentage. He set new Lakehead records in all three areas.
McPherson was the second leading scorer in the OUA with 46 (17 goals, 29 assists) points while his line-mate Soares was third in OUA scoring with 44 points on 22 goals and 22 assists.
Smith led Lakehead defenseman with 6 goals and 16 assists and became feared around the league for his hard hitting defensive style. Hogg was fourth in Lakehead scoring and second in OUA rookie scoring with 14 goals and 18 assists.
