Lakehead University and the Thunderwolves hockey team are pleased to announce that defenceman Linden Springer has committed to the program.

After playing parts of two seasons in the WHL with the Prince George Cougars and Portland Winter Hawks, Springer spent most of the last three years playing for his hometown Lloydminster Bobcats of the AJHL before being traded to the Brooks Bandits late last season.

At Lakehead, Springer will be reunited with former Bobcat teammates Austin McDonald, who will be a sophomore with the Wolves next fall, and Tyler Kunz, who committed to LU in April.

In his final AJHL campaign, the 62, 200-pounder led all rearguards in scoring with 19 goals and 21 assists for 40 points during the regular season and was named the leagues Most Outstanding Defenceman.

Thunderwolves Head Coach Bill McDonald has had his eye on Springer for some time. We've been following Lindens progress for over a year now and we like his size, his skill, and the way he plays the game with intensity, McDonald said. He was voted the best defencemen in the AJHL, which is a great accomplishment, plus hes also played a number of games in the WHL. We think he can step right in and contribute immediately.

Springer is looking forward to joining the Thunderwolves this fall. "I couldn't be happier to announce my commitment to Lakehead University, and Im grateful to be a Thunderwolf, he said. From what Ive heard from Coach McDonald and my friends at Lakehead, its the top of the class. The atmosphere on campus and in the Fort William Gardens really excites me. To be able to play on a team of this calibre in front of great crowds is something I cant wait to do."
