The Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team have announced their 2006-07 roster. This years squad features 14 returnees, eight freshmen, and two junior transfers from Alberta colleges hockey. Four of the freshmen players were walk-ons who had strong tryout camps.
Lakehead Head Coach Pete Belliveau said choosing this years squad was a difficult task considering the talent at this years camp. This was a very strong group and we had hard decisions to make. But, we feel that this group of young gentlemen will work very hard all year in achieving the ultimate goal of bringing the University Cup to Lakehead University and the city of Thunder Bay and our great fans.
Fifth year senior Murray Magill had decided to forego his final year of play with the Wolves so he can concentrate on his studies. Magill is working on his Masters degree in Kinesiology and Sociology. He notched 49 goals and 79 assists in 166 games for Lakehead: sixth on the Thunderwolves All Time scoring list.
Magill said his studies are most important right now but was very proud of his four year at Lakehead hockey. Basically, its in my best interest to really concentrate on my studies now. I wish the boys all the best this year and they have a great team and will do well. Its been an honour to have been part of Lakehead Hockey for four seasons.
Coach Belliveau said Magills dedication and play for the team were greatly appreciated. We want to Thank Murray for his four outstanding years of service and we do want to wish all the best in the pursuit of his Masters degree.
