Its going to be an exciting and historic year for Lakehead Thunderwolves Hockey in 2008-09 and the Wolves announced their season schedule at a media conference Friday morning. Lakehead recruit Kalvin Sagert was also introduced to the media at Fridays conference.

This season will see the Wolves prepare to do battle with teams from the OUA in regular season play, the NCAA in non-conference play, and the AUS and Canada West in both non-conference and in the CIS University Cup National Championships; which Lakehead will host for the first time ever this coming March of 2009.

Thunderwolves Hockey Executive Director Jason Mallon said it is going to be a great year of hockey as the Wolves make the run for the University Cup. Our goal as an organization is to let our fans watch the best teams in the country, as well as prepare our team to battle for a National Championship.

Head Coach Don McKee said 08-09 will be a very exciting year for Lakehead Hockey. I think that this is the best schedule that weve ever created for our fans. Were starting with expansion team Carleton who have fast tracked to becoming an instant recognized program as well as always tough St. Marys from the AUS. We also want to gauge where we stand early so were going down to Duluth to play University of Minnesota-Duluth. This years Varsity Cup will feature three powerhouse teams; Saskatchewan, Laurier, and Manitoba. This tourney will put us in good standing for the second half of the regular season and get us ready to make a run for the playoffs and the national championships. I think we are going to rely on depth and keep an extra player or two because the schedule is so hard and I think this is something we will take a hard look at this in training camp. Our scheduler John Payetta has done a great job and it should be a fantastic year for all our great Wolves fans.

The season begins on Friday, Sep. 27th at 7:30 pm EST as the Wolves host the Carleton Ravens at the FortWilliamGardens. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
