The Lakehead Thunderwolves hockey team is pleased to announce its first commitment of the 2010-11 recruiting class. Mike Quesnele, a 58, 190 pound defenceman from Sault St. Marie, ON has enrolled at Lakehead and will begin taking classes this fall.
Quesnele played 5 seasons for his hometown Soo Greyhounds of the OHL, his best year coming last season where he scored 13 goals and added 41 assists for 54 points good for fourth in team scoring. For his career, he scored 36 goals and 128 assists for 164 points with 420 penalty minutes. He was the Greyhounds assistant captain and was named the OHL player of the week last February. Quesnele also has some pro experience as he played 14 games for the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL during the 2008-09 regular season and playoffs.
Lakehead coach Joel Scherban said that Mike is a skilled defenceman as evidenced by his production over his major junior career. He plays with a great deal of grit as he averaged 100 penalty minutes over the last 3 seasons, and is a welcome addition to the Thunderwolves.
Quesenele chose Lakehead after being impressed with the program on his recruiting visit this past April. I loved the pro-like feel of the program, and playing in front of over 3,000 fans and flying to road games really appealed to me, Mike stated. He added that Making the Nationals 4 of the last 9 years showed that Lakehead is a high-end hockey program and was a key in my decision to play here. The fact that I have some friends attending Lakehead is a big plus as well. Im excited to join the team and hope to play a big part in leading it to further success.
Mike is now the fourth player from Sault St. Marie on the Thunderwolves current roster, joining Jordan Smith, Matt Dias, and Matt Caria.
