Lakehead University and Thunderwolves Athletics are very proud to announce that the Thunderwolves mens hockey team will be playing its first ever Orillia Campus Game vs. the Ryerson Rams on Nov. 11 at 8:10 p.m. at the Orillia Community Centre Arena. The game gives Lakehead students and hockey fans in Orillia the opportunity to experience the excitement of OUA mens varsity hockey in person right in their own City.

Lakehead Universitys new campus in Orillia opens its doors on September 8, and this game will be the first ever OUA varsity game played in Orillia. The game was arranged with the kind cooperation of the Ryerson Rams and their administration and coaching staff, and the Rams will be the official home team for the match.

Lakehead University President Dr. Fred Gilbert said this hockey game is a great way to kick off Lakeheads new campus with the students and people of Orillia. The opening of the Orillia Campus of Lakehead University in September provides an opportunity to expose the community to our fine sports programs. What better way to do that than to have the Ontario Championship Hockey Varsity team play a game in Orillia! Ryerson University has generously agreed to play one of their home games against Lakehead in Orillia. This will be a wonderful chance for the people of Orillia and the Lakehead faculty, staff, and students at Lakeheads Orillia campus to become Thunderwolves fans. I look forward to joining them at the first exposure of Lakehead University Athletics in Orillia this fall.

Lakehead Athletics Director Tom Warden said this is an exciting first for Lakehead University, the City of Orillia, for Thunderwolves hockey, and for the OUA. We want to make Lakehead Athletics an integral aspect of the new Orillia campus. Lakehead University advocates a healthy lifestyle as part of a memorable university experience, and athletics is a very important element of student life. As well, the varsity experience is essential to the university community because it allows for all ages and levels of a community to identify with their school. What better way to introduce our university to the people and students of Orillia than through our Ontario champions mens hockey program! We are really excited about our Nov. 11 game, and we would like to thank Ryerson for agreeing to play one of their home games in Orillia and making this great event possible. I would also like to thank Orillia Minor Hockey for helping to make this game happen
