The Lakehead University Thunderwolves hockey team has increased the size of its defence corps with the addition of Danick Malouin to the line-up. Malouin (Granby, Quebec) stands 64 tall and weighs 210 pounds.

The big rearguard played five years of junior hockey, four and half of those years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 2006-07, his rookie season in The Q, he was a teammate of Lakehead alum Pierre-Marc Guilbault with the PEI Rockets. Malouin was traded to Acadie-Bathurst midway through the 2008-09 season, and began his final year of junior with Baie-Comeau in 2010-11 before being dealt to Nanaimo of the BCJHL at the trading deadline. In total, Malouin played 251 games in the QMJHL and another 21 with Nanaimo. His best season came in 2008-09, when he scored 3 goals and 23 assists for 26 points.

Thunderwolves Head Coach Joel Scherban likes what Malouin will add to the team. Danick is a big, tough defenceman who brings great Major Junior experience to our line-up. He has a reputation as a hard worker and will be a great addition to our locker room."

Malouin is excited to be coming to Lakehead. "Im very happy to have the chance to play for a program that contends for a championship every year and to play in front of the best hockey fans in the CIS, he said. I look forward to meeting my new teammates in September and I will do whatever I can to help the team in the years to come."
