The Lakehead Thunderwolves beat the Concordia Stingers 3-1 in front of 2686 fans on Saturday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay.

The Wolves came out with more energy than they did on Friday night, and were rewarded early when a Mitch Fillman slapshot beat Concordia netminder Antonio Mastropietro. The assists on the goal were credited to Andrew Wilkins and Mike Hammond.

Jake Carrick put the Thunderwolves up 2-0 when he intercepted a Concordia clearing attempt and made no mistake in putting the puck up and over Mastropietro.

Concordia pulled to within one at 14:36 of the opening frame when George Lovatsis banged home his own rebound past Wolves goalie Jeff Bosch, who was making his first appearance since suffering a knee injury at Minnesota-Duluth in early October.

Mastropietro kept the Stingers in the game in the second period with some big saves on Ryan Magill and Cody Alcock, but later Alcock jammed a loose puck past Mastropietro giving Lakehead a 3-1 lead at the 14:22 mark of the middle stanza.

Tempers flared in a scoreless third period, and things came to a head when Lakeheads Trevor Gamache and Concordias Adam Nugent-Hopkins dropped the gloves in a spirited fight, resulting in both players being ejected from the game.

The win gives the Wolves an OUA record of 9-1 and keeps them in a tie with Windsor for first place in the West Division, but Lakehead does have a game in hand over the Lancers.

The Molson 3 Stars of the game were:
1st Star Cody Alcock, Lakehead
2nd Star Mitch Fillman, Lakehead
3rd Star Jeff Bosch, Lakehead

Lakehead is on the road next weekend in Oshawa to take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.
