After a dominant offensive effort Friday night, the Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team could not overcome the stellar goaltending of the UOIT Ridgebacks Jason Guy in Saturdays second game of their two-game OUA West Division matchup. Guy made 51 saves on 56 shots as his team beat the Thunderwolves 6-5 in a shootout at the Campus Ice Center in Oshawa, Ontario.

After the two-game series, Lakeheads record stands at 5-0-1 overall (2-0-1 OUA) while UOIT goes to 2-7-0 (1-3-0 OUA).

Lakehead struck first when Guilbault scored his first of two goals in the game, before UOIT amassed four straight goals through the first and second periods. Lakehead battled back with a four-goal run of their own but Ridgebacks assistant captain Brent Varty forced overtime at 13:23 of the third before Josh Vatri sealed the win with the lone goal of the shootout.

The Thunderwolves could not capitalize on their massive shots advantage as Guy outdueled LU goalie Alex Dupuis. Lakehead outshot the hosts 56-24, including 5-0 in extra time.

Joining Guilbault as the Thunderwolves goal-scorers were Kris Hogg, Adam Sergerie and Bryan Wilson. Sergerie and Wilson also had one assist each.
Jeremy Whelan was the games top scorer with one goal and two assists for UOIT, while Derrick Bagshaw and Tony Rizzi also tallied for the Ridgebacks.

The Thunderwolves next test is the Brock Badgers, October 23-24 at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ont.
