The Lakehead Thunderwolves gave the Michigan Tech Huskies all they could handle despite a 5-3 loss tonight in Houghton, Michigan.

Lakehead held leads of 2-1 and 3-2 over Tech until late in the second period, but the Huskies rallied to win 5-3 with an empty net goal in the final seconds of the game.

Jacob Johnstone led the way for Michigan Tech scoring the hat trick for the Huskies. Devin Welsh, Danick Malouin and Mike Quesnele all replied with singles for the Thunderwolves.

Alex Dupuis was solid in goal for Lakehead, making 39 saves in the game.

The Wolves battled hard all night even with an under-manned squad. Five players Matt Caria, Ryan McDonald, Jake Carrick, Ryan Magill and Josh Mrakic were suspended for the game for violating team rules. Mitch Maunu and Jadran Beljo did not make the trip down, so Lakehead was only able to dress 17 skaters and 2 goalies for the game.

The Thunderwolves will next head to Duluth, Minnesota to take on the reigning NCAA champion UMD Bulldogs tomorrow night at 7:05 Eastern time.
