The CIS No. 5 Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team lost 3-1 to the visiting Waterloo Warriors Friday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It was a very physical, even, and fast paced game that was in contention until the end.

Lakehead goes to 16-5-1-1 in OUA play (22-8-1-1 overall); while Waterloo now has a 14-5-0-2 OUA mark. Lakehead remains in second place in the OUA Far West battleground; five points behind Laurier, one ahead of Western, and four ahead of Waterloo.

The Wolves outshot Waterloo 36-24 on the night but new Warriors netminder Pier Pelletier was strong in goal; turning aside 35 shots as he notched his fourth win since joining Waterloo in the second half of the season. Lakehead netminder Chris Whitley also played well in the loss; and now has an 8-2 OUA record.

Andy Hyvarinen scored Lakeheads tally while Waterloos goals came from David Edgeworth, Chris Golem, and Doug Spooner; with Edgeworth and Spooner also picking up assists.

Lakehead Head Coach Don McKee was happy with his teams play. I think we played a very good game tonight but we couldnt bury our chances and we will need to regroup for tomorrows game and work on finishing our opportunities.

The injuries continued to pile up for the Wolves as both sophomore defenceman Pierre-Marc Guilbault and freshman forward Arron Alphonso suffered lower body injuries and were taken to hospital for diagnosis.

The Molson's Three Stars were:
1) Waterloo: Pier Pelletier
2) Lakehead: Chris Whitley
3) Waterloo: Doug Spooner

The Wolves will look for a series split as Saturday night as the two teams face off again at 7:30 pm EST at the Fort William Gardens and will be videowebcast live with ordering info available at http://events.news-cast.com/events/Lakehead Viewers will need hi speed internet and Windows Media Player to watch the broadcasts.
