The Lakehead University hockey team is pleased to announce that Mike Hammond will be joining the program this fall.

Hammond led the B.C. Junior Hockey League in scoring last season, notching 39 goals and 54 assists for 93 points during the regular season with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks to capture the Brett Hull Trophy as the leagues top scorer. Mike then added another 9 goals and 9 assists for 18 points in 15 playoff games.

He was also selected to the BCHL All-Star Team in 2010-11, and was named the BCHL Most Sportsmanlike Player in 2009-10 when he tallied 68 points with only 16 minutes in penalties.

The Victoria, B.C. native is 510 tall and weighs 170 pounds. In his four years in the BCHL, Hammond scored 92 goals and added 132 assists for 224 points with Victoria, Cowichan Valley, and Salmon Arm.

Hammonds choice to come to Lakehead wasnt a difficult one for him to make. "Choosing to attend Lakehead University was an easy decision for me, and an opportunity I couldn't pass up, Hammond said. Ive heard great things about the University and the fan base, and Im looking forward to contributing in any way I can to help Lakehead win a championship in the years to come."

Thunderwolves Head Coach Joel Scherban is looking forward to Hammonds arrival on campus as well. Mike is a very skilled forward who competes hard every day, Scherban said. As the BCHLs scoring champion, he brings outstanding offensive ability to our program. Were excited that Mike has chosen Lakehead University to pursue his academic and hockey careers.
