The CIS No. 5 Lakehead Thunderwolves mens hockey team has a huge home series this weekend when they host the Waterloo Warriors this Friday and Saturday night at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It will be another lights-out battle in the trenches as the Wolves fight it out with another top OUA Far West divisional opponent. Both games face off at 7:30 pm EST and will be videowebcast live with ordering info available at http://events.news-cast.com/events/Lakehead Viewers will need hi speed internet and Windows Media Player to watch the broadcasts. Rock94 FM Sports Director Bryan Wyatt will be calling the play live with Argus campus newspaper Sports Editor Mike St. Jean handling the colour.

Lakehead enters the weekend with a 16-4-1-1 record in OUA play (22-7-1-1 overall); good for 34 points and second place in the OUA Far West; one point behind first place Laurier and one point ahead of the red hot Western Mustangs (winners of 10 straight) in third. Waterloo has a 13-5-0-2 OUA mark, good for 28 points and fourth place in the OUA Far West.

OUA Far West Standings will change somewhat as Laurier and Western will play a big game on Thursday, Jan. 29th. So, Lakehead could find themselves in second or tied for second after that match heading into this weekend; with Laurier possibly three points ahead, Western tied with Laurier for first, or Western tied with Lakehead for second.

Lakehead is 9-1 in their last 10 OUA games while Waterloo is 8-2 with both teams losing their last game. The Wolves are coming off a road split against Windsor while Waterloo is coming off a big win over No. 6 Laurier at Laurier and a home loss to No. 9 Western last weekend.

Lakehead Head Coach Don McKee said Waterloo will be a big test for the Wolves. Waterloo has definitely put together a team that is as skilled and as deep as any team in the OUA West; especially with the addition of new goaltender Pier Pelletier. They have two OUA All star d-men in Sonnenburg and Moir and get scoring from a very balanced group of forwards. It should be a great series for our fans!

Waterloo Head Coach Brian Bourque said his squad expects a tough series. As anticipated prior to the season, the teams in the Far West Division have been strong and the games have been battles every night. I expect the same this weekend.

During the Friday, January 30th game, the Wolves will be wearing special jerseys to increase prostate cancer awareness in Northwestern Ontario as well as to raise money for cancer research. The Wolves will be wearing beautiful vintage white, blue, and gold special jerseys.

These special jerseys will only be worn during Fridays game and then fans can bid on their favorite players jersey at the silent auction table in the lobby at the Friday, January 30th game. All proceeds made during the auction will go to Northern Cancer Research.
