The Lakehead Thunderwolves earned a hard-fought 4-2 win over the York Lions at the Beatrice Ice Gardens in Toronto Friday night. Jeff Richards led the way for the Wolves as the Lakehead captain scored two goals and added an assist. Lakeheads other goals came from Matt Jacques and Tobias Whelan.
Jerry Clarke and Blair Grennier replied for the Lions. The score was tied 1-1 after the first, 3-2 Lakehead after two, and then Richards put the game away with an empty netter. Shots on goal were 29-28 in favour of the Wolves.Chris Whitleyrecorded the win in the Lakehead goal (and notched an assist; second of the year)while Kevin Druce took the loss for the Lions.
Lakehead now has a 13-8-2-2 OUA record (16-15-2-2 overall); while York is 12-9-3-1 in OUA play (14-16-3-1 overall). The two teams go at it again Saturday night at the Beatrice Ice Gardens with key points on the line as both teams battle for playoff positions.
